Some generate mockups. Some generate prototypes. Some generate code you’ll never use. And a few let you fix the padding yourself.
This is an honest comparison of 9 AI tools that matter for UI/UX designers in 2026, organized by what they actually produce. We built Frontman (one of the tools listed), so we’ll note that where relevant and call out where other tools are stronger.

AI Prototyping and Wireframing
These tools help you go from idea to visual artifact faster. The output is still a design file or prototype. A developer turns it into production code.
Figma AI
Figma shipped a wave of AI features in 2025–2026. First Draft generates editable layouts from text prompts. Code-to-Canvas lets you paste React, HTML, or SwiftUI snippets and get an editable design component back. And Figma Make is a full AI app builder inside Figma.
The image tools (Expand, Erase, Isolate, Vectorize) now work across FigJam, Slides, and Buzz. Search got an AI upgrade that lets you find assets across your team’s files by description.
If your team already lives in Figma, the AI features slot in without changing your workflow. First Draft is useful for exploring layout options you wouldn’t have tried manually, and Code-to-Canvas is a smart way to keep engineering and design in sync.
The tradeoff: generated layouts are starting points, not finished designs. Credit limits started being enforced in March 2026, which caught some teams off guard. And the output is still a Figma file — you need a developer to implement it.
Google Stitch
Formerly Galileo AI (acquired by Google in mid-2025). Now part of the Gemini ecosystem.
The March 2026 overhaul turned Stitch into a serious design workspace with an infinite canvas and voice input. You describe a screen, and it generates high-fidelity UI that’s responsive and exportable as structured code.
The visual quality is a step above most competitors. Free during beta. The Figma export path is smooth, and responsive output sets it apart from tools that only generate static screens.
It’s still in beta, though — features change and break. The code export is closer to a scaffold than production code. And being a Google product means it could pivot or get deprecated without much warning (Google Domains, Google Stadia, etc.). Good for early exploration and PMs who need to visualize ideas fast.
UX Pilot
UX Pilot generates UI screens from text descriptions, but its model is trained specifically for UX/UI design rather than being a general-purpose LLM wrapper. The generated screens tend to be more usable out of the box than what you get from ChatGPT or similar.
The standout feature is predictive heatmaps: upload a screen and see where users are likely to look and click, before you ship anything. Automated UX reviews flag friction points in your interface. These analytical tools are useful even if you never use the generation features.
Free plan gives you 7 screens. Standard is $14/mo (70 screens), Pro is $22/mo (~200 screens), Teams is $39/user/mo. The credit system means you’re constantly thinking about usage, and the free tier is barely enough to evaluate. Like all prototyping tools, the output needs a developer to become real code.
Uizard
Screenshot-to-editable-design, text-to-wireframe, and theme generation. Uizard is built for non-designers — PMs, founders, anyone who needs to mock something up without Figma skills.
Free plan gives you 3 projects. Pro is $12/mo (10 projects). Business is $39–49/mo (unlimited). Lowest barrier to entry on this list. The screenshot-to-design feature is useful for reverse-engineering competitor UIs or recreating a layout you saw somewhere.
Output quality is functional but generic. You won’t ship these designs without significant polish. Limited to standard app patterns; anything novel requires manual work. If you’re a trained designer, Uizard will feel like a toy. If you’re a PM who needs to communicate a layout idea, it does the job.
Relume
AI-powered sitemap and wireframe generator with deep Figma and Webflow integration. Describe a website, get a complete sitemap and wireframes with copy for each section.
The sitemap-to-wireframe pipeline is the fastest way to go from “we need a marketing site” to a structured plan. The AI copywriting generates actual headlines and section copy, not lorem ipsum. Figma export and Webflow integration mean the wireframes feed directly into your build tool.
Output is structural, not visual. You still apply your brand on top. Best for marketing and corporate sites; less useful for complex app UIs. If you’re an agency building 10 marketing sites a quarter, Relume saves real time. If you’re building a SaaS product UI, look elsewhere.
Browser-Based Visual Code Editing
Every tool above produces something that sits between you and production. A mockup. A wireframe. A prototype. Someone still has to turn it into real code.

Frontman

The hard limits: only three frameworks supported. No Angular, no Ember, no static HTML sites. Source mapping breaks on deeply abstracted component libraries. If your design system wraps every component in three HOCs, Frontman won’t reliably trace back to the right source file. The community is small (~130 GitHub stars), documentation has gaps, and complex multi-file refactors are outside its scope. This is a tool for visual tweaks and UI iteration, not for rewriting your data layer.

These tools generate images, not interfaces. Useful for hero images, icons, textures, and concept art. Not for UI layout or interaction design.
Midjourney

The highest-quality image generator for artistic and photorealistic content. Designers use it for mood boards, hero images, concept art, and marketing assets.
It can’t produce usable UI components or structured layouts. The images are raster (PNG/JPG), no editable vectors. Good for a hero image on a landing page. Useless for a button component.
Adobe Firefly

Generative AI inside Photoshop, Illustrator, and Express. The Photoshop integration saves real time on production asset work: expanding backgrounds, removing objects, generating texture variations. Illustrator’s vector recoloring is useful for design system work.
It’s not a UI design tool, and it won’t generate layouts or prototypes. But it speeds up asset creation, and if you already pay for Creative Cloud, you already have it.
AI Code Generation
These tools produce actual code, but they generate new projects rather than editing your existing codebase.

Describe a UI component or page in plain English, get React + Tailwind + shadcn/ui code. The February 2026 update added Git integration, a VS Code-style editor, database connectivity, and agentic workflows.
The code quality is close to production-ready. shadcn/ui components mean the output follows real design system patterns, not random CSS. Git integration lets you create branches and PRs from the chat. The sandbox runtime lets you preview full-stack apps before committing.
The catch: it’s tied to React/Next.js and Tailwind. If your team uses Vue, Svelte, or a custom design system, the output needs significant rework. Complex interactions and state management still need manual work. And the generated code lands in a sandbox — getting it into your existing project’s architecture, routing, and data layer is engineering work. v0 is a starting-point generator, not a full implementation tool.
What’s Not on This List
A few tools that came up in research but didn’t make the cut.
Flowstep and Magic Patterns both generate UI from prompts, but they’re earlier stage and less differentiated than the tools above. Worth watching. Design handoff tools like Zeplin and Avocode aren’t AI tools; they’re workflow tools, still useful but a different category. Dozens of Figma plugins exist (Magician, Ando, etc.), but most are thin wrappers around GPT-4 or DALL-E. We focused on standalone tools with distinct capabilities.

How to Choose
The tools above serve five different needs. Most designers will use more than one.
“I need to explore layouts and iterate on designs.” Figma AI or Google Stitch. If you’re already in Figma, use Figma AI. If you want to try something new and free, Stitch is worth a look.
“I need wireframes and sitemaps fast.” Relume for marketing sites. Uizard for app wireframes if you’re not a designer. UX Pilot if you want heatmaps and UX audits alongside generation.
“I need images and assets.” Midjourney for creative/artistic work. Adobe Firefly if you live in Photoshop/Illustrator.
“I want to generate UI code from a prompt.” v0 by Vercel. The output is real React code with real components, not a screenshot.
“I want to edit my team’s live app without opening a code editor.” Frontman. Click the element, describe the change, get a source code edit. No IDE, no ticket, no handoff.
What’s Still Missing
No AI design tool in 2026 closes the full loop from design to production without human involvement.
Prototyping tools (Figma AI, Stitch, UX Pilot) generate design files that still need a developer to implement. The “design-to-code” exports are scaffolds, not production code. Code generators like v0 produce real code but in a sandbox. Getting generated components into your existing project’s architecture and data layer is still engineering work. Image tools (Midjourney, Firefly) speed up asset creation but don’t touch layout or interaction. And browser-based editors like Frontman let you make visual changes directly, but backend logic and complex state management still need an engineer.
Most designers who ship fast in 2026 use two or three of these together. Figma AI for exploration. v0 when they need a starting component. Frontman for the visual tweaks that used to sit in a ticket queue for days.
